Hashim Amla Childhood and Education

Hashim Amla is the most inspiring cricketer from South Africa, he has a number of records in his hands for his country. Hashim Amla was born on 31 March 1983 in Durban, Natal, South Africa. He is Muslim by born, he was born in a Muslim family in South Africa. He is a well-practicing Muslim since his childhood and it is due to his family’s influence over him. Hashim’s family basically belongs to Indian Gujarat. His father’s name is Muhammad H.Amla and his elder brother is Ahmed Amla.

Hashim got admission to the high school of his birthplace, Durban, with his elder brother. By profession, Hashim Amla’s elder brother is also a cricketer. Ahmed Amla made his debut earlier than his brother. He married a Muslim lady her name is Sumaiyah. She always wears the Hijab and like her husband, she is also a practicing Muslim too.

Being reared in a middle-class family, Hashim was sent to a highly regarded academic and also cricketing school. Hashim Amla’s Domestic Career

Hashim started his domestic career with the Dolphins and set exceptional performances for the Dolphins. Due to Hashim’s good performances in domestic matches, he was picked as a captain of the U-19 World Cup 2002. In the World Cup 2002 South Africa got 2nd position under Amla’s captaincy. Hashim was very exceptional in his domestic career and at the age of 21, he became the captain of the Dolphins. Hashim starts his domestic level for a national club Dolphins and he was one of the top scorers for dolphins scoring 4 centuries in his eight innings. While graduating from Durban High School, Hashim succeeded in impressing the youth with his skills and talent and he made his debut for his team. Hashim did very hard work in his early career and after long-serving to Dolphins, he decided to move to Cape Cobras in the year 2013. Hashim Amla’s International Career

Hashim’s career in international level cricket started after their great performances at the domestic level and also their consistency in performances with South Africa’s A- squad. These great performances in the domestic leveled him for being selected for the winter 2004 tour of Kolkata, India. Hashim was 21 years old when he was selected for this tour. At the start of his international career first 2 years were not good for him, he could not perform very well and he was dropped from the South African squad. He could not perform very well and so many questions arise about his framework, his playing techniques were failing in the early stages of his international career.  

He came back in 2006 in strong form, he saves the test match for his country against New Zealand. He made career-saving 149 runs in Cape Town against New Zealand. Now that great knock gave Hashim the self-belief that he could succeed at the international level. During the tour of India, Hashim performed very well. He was dismissed only once in the 3 innings that proving to the world he was he is a tough player against his competitors in the cricket world.

Hashim gave outstanding performances in 2006, he was in great touch in that year with an average of 57.10 in just 19 matches. From that till time now he is so consistent in his performance and creating his place permanently in the South African Squad.

Despite Amla’s magnificent record in the Test matches, he always considered being unsustainable to the shorter plans of the game, but once again he proved wrong this thought by making two hundred in 2010 for a five-match One Day International series. Hashim ensured a permanent place after this performance, he set himself in the South African ODI squad, and he was also given a chance to play T201s as well.

In 2011 after the end of the World Cup Smith resigned from the One Day Internationals, Hashim was expected to succeed him but he was named the vice-captain of the One Day Internationals.

In 2012, at the Oval against England, Hashim slammed triple centuries by scoring 311. He became the first South African player to score a triple century.

In 2013, he could not perform very well, and he could not score runs on a consistent basis as he did in previous years, but he came back with a bang and he scored a hundred against Australia in the second test match in Port Elizabeth. Amla played a major role in the T20 World Cup 2014, due to his good performance South Africa reached the semi-final, in five innings Hashim scored 185 runs.

He continued to pile on the runs in the One Day International series in Sri Lanka, Amla scored back-to-back hundreds. In fact, Hashim finished 2014 as the highest run-getter in South Africa in both Tests and ODIs. In December Amla smashed a double century against West Indies.

Amla becomes the fastest player to score 5,000 ODI runs, in just 101 matches, he broke Virat Kohli’s record of 114 innings.

Australian former cricketer and commentator Dean Jones called Hashim a terrorist during a test game between South Africa and Sri Lanka in 2006. During the match when he took the catch Dean referred to Amla as a terrorist, Dean was assuming that the broadcasting is switched off but the broadcasting was on air at that time including South Africa. Dean Jones was criticized after this statement all around South Africa. Criticism increases as time pass after a lot of criticism, the Deans turned toward Hashim Amla and apologizes for the statement that he passed during the match, Amla accepted apologize.
